(Vrindavan Initiative for Sustainable and Holistic Waste Administration Systems)
Introduction An acronym forming the sanskrit word meaning "trust", V.I.S.H.W.A.S. is another venture by FFLV to keep Vrindavan dham neat and clean, fresh and green.
This project has been financed under the Small Grant Program & Global Environment Facility (SGP/GEF) by UNDP, United Nation Development Program.
The main aim of Project VISHWAS is to establish an effective Solid Waste Management System for Vrindavan Dham.   Opening
The project was inaugurated on World Environment Day, may 10th 2006 with a rally starting from the famous Radha Raman Temple.
In the beginning of the project; areas of wards 1 & 2 surrounding the Radha Raman Temple, the Gopinath Temple to Kesi Ghat, Ranga Nath Temple, Pathar Pura, and Gopinath Bazaar to Tanga Stand were adopted.
This includes over 600 households, 50 Ashrams and temples and 350 shops.
VISHWAS has twelve full time workers - (10 sweepers, one supervisor and one driver) with a special tractor and trolley. They daily clean the roads, alleys, drains and collect the garbage, shifting it to the dumping ground.
Segregation of plastic is done at the dump, thereafter to be utilized in weaving baskets. |
